Manchester Day Parade

Event date: Sunday 18th June.

Manchester Day Parade

Manchester Parks are looking to have a presence at the Manchester Day Parade on Sunday 18th June 2017. There will be many different levels of volunteer opportunities from production to joining the float on the day along with organised workshops prior to the event.

Is this something that your group would like to be involved with or maybe a member who would like to volunteer?

The parade now in its 8th year, takes place on Sunday 18th June. The theme is magic and it is our aim to bring Manchester Parks together to create an entry for the Parade (the picture below shows a float created by Alexandra Park last year). There are 143 Parks across the City and we’d like our groups represent them all in some way!

  • You can get involved as a performer / participant: being in Manchester Day
  • Or in the making process / behind the scenes...or both!

We are looking for about 35-40 people to take part

If you are interested join us at the 'Manchester Parks' meeting.

Central Library, Performance Space One.

Wednesday 29th March, 5.45pm for a 6pm start.

TIMETABLE / WHAT’S INVOLVED

MARCH

This initial meeting is for anyone linked to Manchester’s Parks who would like to find out more about the event, what’s involved and how they, or their group (e.g. a Park’s Friends group), can get involved.

APRIL

We’ll follow it up with another meeting in April … and then it’s time to get on with doing and making.

MAY AND JUNE

During May and June they’ll be opportunities to come and get involved with things at the Manchester Day WoW workshop space which will be at a City Centre location. We’ll also hold a small number of sessions out and about in Manchester’s Parks, but as we’re working with green spaces across the City we need a central location where we can all come together, not only to make things but also to rehearse and meet the other Mcr Day groups.

SUNDAY 18th JUNE – MANCHESTER DAY

The float and costumes will be designed by professional carnival artists and makers, based on your ideas. You’ll be supported by these artists, and this is a great chance to develop new skills, meet new people and showcase the fantastic range of individuals and communities that use Manchester’s Parks.  The making will happen in a series of workshops – which are a great opportunity to try something different – and we hope you’ll have an amazing time as part of the event.
